E-Scooter

In order to ensure the safety of e-scooter users and other passengers, rnv's transport regulations are based on the current nationwide decrees which, on the basis of expert opinions, have linked safe transport on buses to certain criteria.

The e-scooter manufacturer must explicitly authorise the use of the e-scooter with a passenger on board in suitable public transport buses in the operating instructions. The following criteria must be fulfilled by the e-scooter:

• max. total length of 1200 mm
• 4-wheeled vehicle
• Limit value for the total mass of the e-scooter (empty weight plus body weight of the user plus additional load): 300 kg
• Approval for forces of up to 0.8 g acting on the leaning surface of the e-scooter with a person sitting on it when it is positioned backwards during emergency braking or 0.5 g lateral forces when cornering
• Stability is guaranteed by a braking system that always acts on both wheels of an axle together and cannot be bypassed by a differential (e.g. separate parking brake)
• Sufficient ground clearance and climbing ability of the e-scooter to be able to enter and exit the bus via a ramp with a maximum incline of 12% without hitting the floor plate at the transition from the ramp to the vehicle.
• Suitability for reversing into the bus
• The e-scooter must not have any additional attachments that prevent or restrict rearward positioning directly against the leaning surface of the wheelchair space.

The transport regulation only applies to buses operated by rnv and its subcontractors. Safe transport of e-scooters is not possible on rnv trams.
