Heritage Saloon Tram

Enjoy the Rhine-Neckar region in the OEG's heritage saloon tram

Whether you want to celebrate an anniversary, a wedding, a family festivity or successful examinations-a ride in the OEG's historical saloon tram is always a unique experience for those who love to travel, who have close ties to our region and who also cherish nostalgic ambience.

A vehicle with well-crafted furnishings

The OEG's heritage saloon tram consists of two technically well-preserved 45/46 driving carriages from the Fuchs Carriage Works in Heidelberg. In 1928 the former OHG acquired a total of 21 trams from that Heidelberg company in order to meet the demands for comfort and efficiency of that era. The electrical equipment was supplied by Brown Boveri & Cie (BBC) in Mannheim. These electrical multiple units (EMUs) consisted of a "short-coupled" motorised and driving vehicle as well as an intercommunication passage for a conductor; they ended their regularly scheduled service on March 3, 1974. The two motorised/driving carriages or half-units are identical in their construction and can be coupled to form a full EMU. The wagons are developed with low-lying mid-car boarding, lowered platforms and elevated compartments.

The furnishings are well-crafted and elegant; teakwood was used for the middle platform and the driver's cab while the compartments were done in mahogany.

Our passengers sit comfortably on leather-covered seats during their trip through the Rhine-Neckar region. The heritage saloon trams were completely overhauled in 1990 and have been rented out for festivities and celebrations ever since.

The vehicles are exactly 27.53 meters long and offer 58 seats. Each wagon is equipped with a bar complete with a draught unit, refrigerator and a coffee maker; on request it can also be set up for a buffet.

For entertainment there is a music system with a radio and a cassette recorder.
